Custom Round Series (CRS) speakers are specifically designed for in-ceiling applications. The series contains a variety of five-inch, six-inch and eight-inch two-way in-ceiling speakers. Several of these models incorporate our exclusive WavePlane" tweeter baffle.
WavePlane Technology
A speaker's tweeter produces high frequency, extremely directional sound. Its performance is critical to the resolution and definition of a speaker's output. Unlike conventional box speakers, co-axial speakers (where the tweeter is mounted OVER the woofer) do not have a flat tweeter mounting surface, or baffle, to accurately reflect the tweeter's high frequency sound waves. This results in uneven frequency response and a lack of definition. This problem is more audible when a speaker is mounted in a ceiling, since the listening area may not be directly under the speaker's placement.
SpeakerCraft cured this problem with the WavePlane" , an important advancement in co-axial speaker technology. It provides a solid surface for tweeter reflection and delivers clear, balanced, high frequencies toward the listener.
The WavePlane holds the tweeter directly over the center of the woofer. The WavePlane's louvered surface, both open and closed at the same time, provides a 95% solid area for the tweeter and a 75% open area for the woofer. The narrow, directional sound waves from the tweeter are directed off the surface and the large, non-directional, sound waves produced by the woofer pass through the channeled design of the WavePlane . The WavePlane produces an effect similar to the front surface of a box speaker's cabinet.
Several speakers in the Custom Round Series and the DT Series, use this unique design, but SpeakerCraft also makes lower cost models without WavePlane technology, for use in areas where ultimate sound quality is less critical.
